Don’t you just love how comforting a good bowl of Chili (Chili con carne) is? I love how its combination of ingredients, its textures and fun flavour just taste too ideal.
I love serving it whenever a large group of my friends come over to watch some movie at home. Chili indeed is so delicious that it has eventually become a traditional part of our get together.
But today, I’m planning to spice things up. I’m afraid that time may come and my friends will find my delicious Chili no longer exciting.
Ever wonder what goes with Chili?
Read on; let’s try something new and discover how we can take our Chili to the next level.
List of What to Serve With Chili
I know how amazing Chili tastes on its own, but giving it a good pair is also a must try. So I'm going to share with you awesome ideas that you can prepare together with Chili.
Let’s find out below!
Cornbread has been a classic pair of Chili. But if you want to take this combination to another level, you can add some jalapenos to the batter.
If you want it extra sweet, you can add some honey to it. I always try to impress my guest by serving the Chili in a bread bowl. They can tear off a piece of the bread and dip it in the Chili.
If no bread is available, biscuits will be a great substitute. Make it even impressive by adding some chopped ham onto it as well as shredded cheddar cheese and sliced jalapeno.
You probably haven’t thought of eating or serving your Chili with rice, but I found this a very great combination. What’s great about rice is that it doesn’t overpower the Chili due to its mild taste. The rice can even enhance the flavour of Chili.
I like to pour my Chili on to hot boiled rice and sprinkle it with some herbs or cheese to make it more appetising.
If you want to lighten up your delicious Chili, why don’t you consider sprinkling it over your green salads, such as kale or spinach salad with oil- based dressing?
I always give my Chili an interesting spin by making a cabbage salad using green and red shredded cabbage, thinly sliced apples, carrots and dressing it with apple-cider vinaigrette. Then I sprinkled Chili on top of it for an amazing taste.
A cold corn salad also goes great with Chili. You can combine cooked corn with onions, olive, cherry tomatoes and vinegar; then put it in the fridge until it has fully chilled.
What I like about salads is how it allows you to find endless variations and it can help you lessen the taste of your Chili if you find it too strong.
If you’re starting to get bored with the traditional tomato ketchup or mayo on fries, why not serve your fries with Chili? The meaty and spicy flavour of Chili is without a doubt a great pair to the crispy fries.
You can just simply top your crispy fries with some Chili and make everything perfect by sprinkling it with shredded cheese.
I really love my Chili with cheese on it, so I know tortilla filled with cheese will be a so much better idea. Just like Chili, quesadillas taste good on its own already.
But quesadillas can actually enhance your savoury and meaty dishes. I love dipping my quesadillas on Chili; the combination is just simply amazing.
I guess pasta is the best answer to the question “what goes with Chili”. I always double my favourite pasta sauce with Chili and add it to my spaghetti or macaroni.
Then I leave the pasta with Chili in the refrigerator overnight to absorb all the spices. You can make your dish look colourful by adding canned or frozen corned kernels.
Next time, I’m going to add it to my lasagna recipe; I’m sure it is also going to be a great combination.
What’s even greater than beverages in rich flavours? They go great with Chili. You can serve some ice-cold beer in frosty mugs along with your Chili. Fruity wine punches or red wine would also be a good idea.
I even sometimes serve my Chili with some margaritas with line and tequila on it. I like how the drink never fails to complement Chili’s bold taste. For my kids, they enjoy their bowl of Chili with some lemony iced tea.
Other deserts I love serving with my Chili are flan and sweet corn pudding. Sliced fruits is also a great idea, you can even add a dash of cinnamon for a grand finale.
I know Chili has never meant to be eaten alone, so I have always been asking “what goes with Chili”. It’s quite a great comfort to know that there are these perfect combinations that can bring my Chili to the next level.
What’s even more impressive is how this delicious dish has endless limitation. You just have to be adventurous and keep on trying to mix it with dishes that you think you will delight in.
